Oil Sands Extraction and Heavy Hydrocarbon Separation

We offer a highly effective, 100% plant-based biodegradable concentrate designed for oil sands extraction, soil washing, drill cuttings processing, and bottom-sludge cleaning. The agent ensures rapid separation of hydrocarbons from the mineral phase, even under extreme contamination levels

Key Advantages of Technology

Ultra-Low Dosage

The high activity of the product allows for the use of a 1% working solution (1:100 ratio). This significantly reduces logistics costs, storage requirements, and total processing expenses.

Deep Cleaning

Achieve complete hydrocarbon removal down to a clean solid phase. Based on laboratory control results, the processed sand and aggregates become suitable for environmental release or construction reuse

Green Chemistry Principles

Formulated entirely from plant-derived raw materials, the product is non-toxic and fully biodegradable, eliminating environmental risks and compliance fines

How It Works

Mechanism of Action

01. "Molecular Wedge" Effect

With ultra-low interfacial tension, the 1% aqueous solution easily penetrates soil micropores, undercuts the oil film, and breaks its adhesion to sand particles

02. Hydrophilic Protective Barrier

A durable molecular film forms on every mineral particle, repelling hydrocarbons and completely preventing re-adhesion—even after the medium cools down

03. Accelerated Phase Separation

Due to altered wettability and density differences, detached oil rapidly floats to the surface for collection, while clean, heavy solids settle to the bottom

Applications and Process Schemes

Efficient recycling of heavy tank bottoms, sludge pits, and drilled rock materials.

  • Separation Unit Washing: Sludge is mixed with a 1% solution in hydro-mixers or settling tanks. Technical or high-salinity produced water can be used for solution preparation.

  • Rapid Phase Separation: The agent instantly strips oil from abrasive sand. The cleaned solid phase goes to dewatering, while recovered commercial oil is pumped for further refining.

This method enables the extraction of hydrocarbons from layers of sand, soil, and mineral formations directly at the contamination site, significantly reducing costs associated with excavation, transport, and off-site disposal.

Hydrodynamic Washdown

The contaminated area is treated with a 1% aqueous solution of the reagent applied under pressure. The formulation’s high capillary activity breaks the molecular bond between the oil film and the mineral substrate, transferring the hydrocarbons into a mobile aqueous phase.

Containment and Collection System

To manage the fluid flow, a network of interceptor trenches is engineered according to the site’s natural topography. The effluent is channeled toward a sealed containment node, which may include:

  • Engineered impoundments (lined with high-density geomembranes);
  • In-ground collection pits with specialized protective liners;
  • High-capacity mobile bladders or flexible storage tanks.

Gravitational Phase Separation

Within the containment node, the process fluid undergoes rapid natural stratification:

  • Solid Phase: The washed sand and heavy mineral fractions settle at the base. Following dewatering and validated laboratory analysis, the material is cleared for strategic reuse or backfilling.
  • Oil Phase: Facilitated by the reagent, hydrocarbons rapidly coalesce and concentrate on the water surface. The recovered oil is collected via mechanical skimmers or vacuum systems and dispatched for downstream processing or recycling.
  • Aqueous Phase: Once the hydrocarbons and sediment are removed, the water can be recycled into the closed-loop system to prepare subsequent batches of the working solution.

Applications

  • Our technology is suitable for the separation and recovery of crude oil and petroleum products from sand, soil, loose mineral formations, sludge, and sediment at a wide range of industrial and environmental sites:
  • Oil production sites and well pads
  • Refineries, tank farms, and fuel storage facilities
  • Oil and petroleum product terminals
  • Ports, harbors, and coastal infrastructure
  • Beaches, shorelines, dunes, and coastal sands
  • Pipeline corridors and spill-affected areas
  • Drilling sites, drilling waste, and cuttings
  • Oil sludge pits, lagoons, and sedimentation basins
  • Industrial wastewater treatment and separation facilities
  • Contaminated soil, sand, and loose mineral materials at remediation sites
